Our Wedding

Our life together has truly been a “Grand” Story.It all began in 1978, when two high-school kids crossed paths and something simply clicked. We quickly became sweethearts—young, wide-eyed, and sure of only one thing: that being together just felt right.From there, our story gathered momentum. We went off to college together at Bowling Green State University, where new chapters unfolded almost daily. Weekends meant adventures—ski trips to Northern Michigan, camping at Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, and discovering that exploring the world was always better when we were side by side.After college, we married—41 years ago—and that’s when life really began to get interesting. Careers, challenges, joys, milestones, and miracles; each chapter shaping who we are today. Through it all, we’ve always returned to the same truth: life is richer when we walk through it together.The guests who are here with us today represent the many places we’ve traveled—geographically, emotionally, and spiritually—through our “Grand” life together. Each of you holds a piece of our story. You’ve shared moments that were joyful, funny, chaotic, and even pivotal. For that, we are deeply grateful.There’s an old saying: “Life is nothing but a series of choices.”And through every season, every challenge, and every triumph, we’ve tried to make the best choices we could—for each other, for our family, and for the life we’ve built.Today, as we renew our vows, we celebrate not just the choices we made, but the incredible journey they led us on…a journey that continues, with love at its center and the Grandest chapters still ahead.

Denise and I suggest St Ignace, across the bridge to take the fairy for the island. Much shorter lines and better parking. Dress for October in Northern Michigan and extra cool evenings. Watch the dress code at the Grand Hotel. Men need a sport coat/tie and ladies are best in a dress in the evening. Welcome to Americas Summer Place-there is no place quite like it-and the experience cannot be duplicated. Grand Hotel. Opened in 1887. On an island without cars-where horses and bicycles are still the favored modes of transportation. Its the slower-more leisurely pace of the past-but with all the amenities of the present. A special place on the Island: The Butterfly House Back in 1991, Doug Beardsley of Mackinac Island had the wonderful idea of adding butterflies to his greenhouse and allowing customers to enjoy two of nature’s most beautiful creations, and so originated Michigan’s first live exhibit, The Butterfly House. Many years later, the Original Mackinac Island Butterfly House has come a long way – evolving from a dirt floor with potted plants and just a handful of North American butterflies to a beautifully landscaped tropical jungle with hundreds of butterflies from all over the world. As you walk through the garden our attractive, but subtle, signage allows you to read some basic facts about butterflies, and insects in general – giving you just enough information to further pursue on your own, the wonderful world of insects. And so much more!
